Folks, Israel is voting again, and many of us who love the Jewish people and take the Bible seriously are asking, “From a biblical ethos, which direction lines up better with what God says about life, family, and the Jewish nation?”

(Joshua 7 and Hosea 2:15)
Hi folks. As I have been reading through Joshua, a passage of scriptiure really had an impression on me and it was chapter 7 that stopped me. After the great victory at Jericho, Israel marched on the small city of Ai and were defeated. Thirty-six men died. Joshua fell on his face before the Lord, and the Lord spoke plainly: “Israel has sinned… they have taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived” (Joshua 7:11 NKJV).

Many of us have been saddened by the news that came out of Jordan this week. At a church in the village of Hammoud, near Karak, gunmen opened fire during a funeral. At least seven people were killed and many more were wounded. The authorities have described it as a terrorist attack. Families who had gathered to mourn one death now carry the weight of several more. It is a heavy and sorrowful thing.

You know, folks, as I was reading my Bible, a passage in Deuteronomy grabbed my heart. The Lord gave Israel a very down-to-earth instruction while they were traveling through the wilderness. He said, “Also you shall have a place outside the camp, where you may go out; and you shall have an implement among your equipment, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it and turn and cover your refuse. For the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and give your enemies over to you; therefore your camp shall be holy, that He may see no unclean thing among you, and turn away from you” (Deuteronomy 23:12-14).

Deuteronomy 2:1–7
As I was reading these verses, a few really stood out to me, and I’d love to share this little morsel of Scripture as we explore the book of Deuteronomy. Moses is rehearsing the journey of the children of Israel through the wilderness. And here in chapter 2 he brings them back to those days when they were walking around Mount Seir.

The story of Israel shows us how faithful God is. When you lay it out the way the Bible does, it can really touch your heart. The Bible isn’t confusing when you just follow what it says. God laid the story out step by step, from Abraham all the way to the day when He brings His people back and they look at the One they pierced.

Folks, I’ve been thinking a lot about the video I watched today, the one called “Why Did Calvary Chapel Split, The Truth About CCA vs CCGN.” It’s a helpful look at what happened after Pastor Chuck Smith went to be with the Lord, and it raises a practical question for many of us, especially here in the UK: when a church calls itself a Calvary Chapel, what should we expect to find?

When we think about leaving a legacy, most people picture something the world can measure—money in the bank, a name people remember, buildings with plaques on the wall, or influence in politics and public life. Yet the Word of God measures legacy differently. Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV). A true legacy is not what we accumulate for ourselves, but what the Lord works in us and through us as we walk with Him.

I was walking home from the store the other night with my son. It was one of those real Scottish storms—rain coming sideways, wind pushing against us every step. My boy doesn’t talk much with words; he’s autistic and non-verbal. But he talks with his hand. As soon as we stepped out into that weather, he reached up and grabbed mine and held on tight. I led the way, he held on, and together we made it through the rain and the wind all the way home.

There are some stories that just stop you when you hear them. The death of three little children at the hands of their own mother is one of those. You cannot explain it away. You cannot soften it. Three young lives—Cora, Dawson, and Callan—were taken, and a father’s world was shattered in a single afternoon. That is a wound that does not heal quickly, and any of us who love the Lord have to begin by simply grieving with those who grieve.

I have to admit I was a bit out of the loop with all that has been happening on the beaches of Britain these past few months. Now that I have subscribed to Calvary Chapel Magazine, I am catching up on the reports of believers being baptised in public. It started small. Back in June at Jennycliff near Plymouth there were about twenty-eight. Then on the fifth of September at Bigbury-on-Sea in Devon the number grew to one hundred and seventy. And just recently, on the tenth of October at Bridlington, somewhere around five hundred and fifty people were baptised in the North Sea.
